Friedrich Nietzsche's inaugural lecture at the University of Basel was delivered on May 28, 1869 under the title "Über die Persönlichkeit Homers" (On the Personality of Homer). It was subsequently published as Homer und die klassische Philologie (Homer and Classical Philology), Basel: Bonfantini, 1869.
